Dean Mathias, 25, and his beloved dog Axl died Thursday after their Holden Colorado vehicle rolled over on Princes Highway near Moruya on the south coast of New South Wales. His friends and family were shocked by his sudden death and hailed him as a “mechanical genius” and one of the best mechanics in the region. Of all those devastated by Dean’s death, his fiancée Libby Williams was one of the hardest hit. The couple met in high school and were to marry in Tuross Heads in October of the next year. The couple also celebrated their birthdays in October. Mathias attended numerous schools on the south coast before moving to Canberra to hone his trade as a mechanic. He returned to the South Coast to start his own business, DM Diesel Mechanics, and was ready to venture into a new phase of his life with Mrs. Williams. “We had so many plans for the future that we were on track to achieve them as well,” Ms. Williams told the South Coast News. She described her fiancé as “charming, smart and hardworking” in a heartbreaking tribute.

Mr. Mathias was also an avid outdoorsman and spent time outdoors on the beach with his dogs, in his four-wheeler, or working on anything mechanical. He can also be found in his “amazing” shed entertaining his coworkers, listening to music and tinkering with their cars while having a laugh. “Dean had a big heart,” Mrs. Williams said. “There are no words for this loss and what it means to me.” Dean’s many friends also paid tribute to his late partner, with many left shocked and in disbelief by his sudden death. “Rest easy bro there’s no way you’re gone,” one wrote on social media. “You’re off to bigger and better things now mate, it was nice meeting you bro.” “Honestly I’m lost for words bro wishing this was just a nightmare,” wrote a second. “RIP bro, forever and ever in everyone’s hearts,” wrote a third. His close friend Lottie Cooper wrote an equally moving tribute on Facebook. ‘We all love you very much. Your wife is devastated, your family is devastated and I miss you so much. Thank you for being in our lives even for this brief time. “You and Axl take care of each other, my dear friend.” Ms. Cooper started a GoFundMe to help support Dean’s family through the ordeal, which has already raised more than $6,500 of her $10,000 goal. “Anyone who knew Dean knew that he had a huge heart and a very big personality,” Cooper wrote. ‘He was an intelligent and affectionate young man at the beginning of his life. We should attend his wedding, not his funeral. “This has been a devastating and unexpected loss and there are many broken hearts.”
