David Barlow and Celia Geyer Wiki – Biography
The deaths of David Barlow and Celia Geyer were mourned by friends after their honeymoon safari in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park turned into a nightmare on Tuesday night when their vehicle was set on fire by members of the Democratic Forces Allies (ADF), a terrorist group that has pledged allegiance to ISIS. “We woke up today with heavy hearts and the deepest sadness to hear the devastating news of the deaths of Dave and Celia Barlow,” wrote Richard Davies, warden of St. Mary’s Church in Hampstead Norreys, about the couple’s murder , according to the BBC. saying. “[David] was a pillar of the community, always putting his needs first,” Davies said of Barlow, who served on the parish council for more than 10 years “Dave grew up close to it and lived here most of his life,” Davies added.
“He was one of those people who are a big part of the community, he is very loved, he participates in sports clubs, he participates in all aspects of town life.” David was a very genuine person, he spoke his mind, he was very funny, with a great sense of humor and a really nice guy,” parish council member Toby Harris told The Guardian. “I spent a lot of time meeting him in the pub for a beer or two. He was approachable and down to earth.” Barlow, 50, and Geyer lived together in Hampstead Norreys, Berkshire, friends told The Guardian. She was also fondly remembered by colleagues and neighbors. “Celia was a force of nature, full of unique skills, ideas, creativity, passion and action,” Belmond CEO Dan Ruff wrote in a tribute on LinkedIn. “I will miss her “up for anything” attitude as we traveled the world and saw incredible things. I will miss the love she showed for her work, her team, her family and, of course, her dogs. “An extraordinary woman, a legend in her own right, gone too soon.” “I only met Celia once for about half an hour. “She was friendly and welcoming, a really nice person,” Harris added. “The people here thought well of them. Community members traveled to be at her wedding [last weekend], which shows how popular she was.” Hampstead Norreys cricket club paid tribute to the couple on Facebook and affectionately referred to Barlow as “Lord Barlow”. “[David] was at the time this incident occurred with the most important person in his life, a woman we all knew very well, as Dave was very proud to share in all of Celia’s achievements. “She was also an incredible human being, who will be desperately missed,” the emotional statement reads. “Lord Barlow, as we fondly know him, he will be with us forever. “The thoughts and prayers of the entire club are with Dave and Celia’s families at this time.”
Tributes from those who knew the couple came after terrifying photographs showed their green safari truck still ablaze on a dirt road. Ugandan President Yoweri K. Museveni previously said the country’s High Commission in the United Kingdom will contact the families of Barlow and Geyer in the wake of the tragedy. Referring to the attack on the couple as a “most unfortunate and infuriating incident”, Museveni also promised that the terrorists “will pay with their miserable lives”. The ADF was founded in Uganda, but has been based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since the late 1990s. The group pledged allegiance to ISIS four years ago. In December 2021, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo launched a joint operation to eliminate the group from eastern Congo, resulting in the deaths of more than 560 fighters. Museveni, however, acknowledged that the group that attacked Barlow and Geyer slipped through “gaps” in the official patrol in charge of monitoring tourists in the park. In light of the deaths of Barlow and Geyer, Britain’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has officially warned against all but essential travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
