Dario Acquaroli, the famed Italian mountain biker, died on April 9, 2023, at the age of 48. Dario Acquaroli’s name is still well-known in the mountain bike community today. He was the ideal of a cycling champion, born on March 10, 1975, in San Giovanni Bianco, Italy. Dario’s potential was obvious from a young age, and he earned his first professional contract at the age of 16. He went on to represent Italy in 19 international competitions, winning two European titles and two world titles.
Dario also won five Italian championships with various teams. As a result, he got Coni’s Golden Collar for Sporting Merit, his country’s top sporting honor. Dario retired in 2008, but he stayed faithful to his passion and stayed connected to the sport by working in various positions in Vittoria and Merida, where he presently serves as Marketing Manager. When COVID hit Italy, he used his notoriety to organize a fundraiser to benefit the less fortunate, donating his last World Championship-winning bike to the cause. Dario was many things to many people, and one of the best to ever ride a bike. When the cameras turned off, and the race was over, he was a brother to me.
