Danielle Agcaoili and Brandi Tyau, the bodies of two sisters were discovered onboard a fishing charter boat that was partially submerged off the coast of Southeast Alaska amid heavy seas.
Two additional passengers from the charter, which was taken by two-holiday couples, are still missing. The bodies are believed to be those of Danielle Agcaoili, 53, of Waipahu, Hawaii, and her sister Brandi Tyau, 56, of Canoga Park, California, according to Alaska State Troopers. They were transferred to the state medical examiner’s office after being recovered from the boat at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Morgan Robidou, 32, of Sitka, Alaska, and Robert Solis, 61, Tyau’s partner, are still missing. Maury Agcaoili, Danielle Agcaoili’s partner, was found motionless in the sea near the boat on Sunday and later pronounced dead. According to the Coast Guard, the 30-foot aluminum charter yacht was last spotted earlier that day in Sitka, a community about 90 miles southwest of Juneau. The boat was later discovered near an island about 10 miles west of Sitka.
On Sunday, Coast Guard Petty Officer Ian Gray reported 6- to 11-foot swells in the area. Troopers said Thursday that efforts to recover the boat were still ongoing, despite being impeded by heavy waves and strong gusts. In a statement, Kingfisher Charters said it was “devastated by the loss of the guests and captain of the Awakin.” We are completely collaborating with the US Coast Guard in their investigation of this unfortunate tragedy and hope that it furnishes answers to the questions as to how it occurred.”

The girls’ parents and brother were also on the voyage, although on a different vessel, according to Jim Solis, Robert Solis’ brother. Jim Solis grew up in Burbank, California, with his six siblings, including Robert and Jim. Solis and Tyau first met in Hawaii several decades ago, when Solis was stationed there as an instructor for the Navy. They share a son, and Solis has three boys from prior relationships. “He was a big surfer and a fantastic musician.” “He played the guitar and composed songs,” Jim Solis recalled of his brother. “The ocean was his life.”
Tyau was the ideal foil for Solis. Jim Solis said she organized and prepared for their family camping trips in the Sierras and was a calming influence on “bigger-than-life” Solis. “She was a quiet person, but she had this sly sense of humor,” Jim Solis remarked. “We loved the fact that she was with my brother and his partner because she was the yin to his yang.” According to the website for his firm, The RES Group, Solis became a private investigator in 1992 after serving in the military for eight years.
