Daniel Howard, a former Idaho state trooper who resigned several years ago despite various criminal probes for his actions, was arrested this week for allegedly murdering his wife in February 2021, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
Daniel Howard, 57, surrendered to police on Friday to face murder and domestic abuse charges in the death of Kendy Howard, who was survived by two adult children and a grand daughter.
According to the Coeur d’Alene Press, Howard called the police on the night of Feb. 2, 2021, and informed officers that Kendy had shot herself. The deadly gunshot wound, according to detectives, was not self-inflicted.

Former Idaho state trooper arrested for allegedly murdering his wife
In November 2014, Howard resigned from the Idaho State Police as detectives looked into many felonies he committed across multiple counties. According to the Spokesman-Review, prosecutors claimed at the time that Howard threatened to kill his friend after discovering his wife was having an affair with him.
According to the local newspaper, Howard allegedly wrote threatening notes for his friend, poured syrup in his friend’s automobiles, and shot at his house with a pistol. He also allegedly took thousands of rounds of ammo from Idaho State Police and applied for a motorbike under a false name.
Howard reached a plea agreement with prosecutors and was sentenced to 120 days in jail and 600 hours of community service, according to the Spokesman-Review at the time. Kendy, an Idaho native, was remembered in her obituary as “well-known for her bright smile and outgoing personality.”
“She was dearly loved by her family, and we cannot express how much we will miss her,” states the obituary. On February 2, 2021, the day her husband reportedly murdered her, she posted a quiz on Facebook for the last time. “Kendy, 2021 will bring you… a single but happy life,” according to the message.
