Dale Meeks, an Emmerdale actor, died at the age of 47, according to his family. The Geordie actor, who portrayed Simon Meredith on ITV serial Emmerdale from 2003 to 2006, died of “heart failure” on Saturday evening, according to his brother Philip Meeks.
Meeks, who was 49 on the day of the King’s coronation, died at South Tyneside Hospital in South Shields, according to his brother. As accolades came in for the actor, who has been hailed as “the loveliest of guys,” Philip remarked, “My heart is broken.”
Meeks rose to prominence in the 1990s as a teenager in the BBC drama Byker Grove, alongside Declan Donnelly and Ant McPartlin. He was a member of Denton Burn, the youth club that competed with Byker Grove.

The presenters, who played PJ and Duncan in Byker Grove, wrote, “We are so incredibly sorry to hear the very sad news of Dale’s passing.”He was the sweetest of gentlemen, even though he was a Denton ‘Burner,’ the arch-enemy of the Byker ‘Grovers!’
“What a tragic loss at such a young age.” Dale, rest in peace. “Good night, bonny lad. “In response to the tweet, Philip said to PA, “That’s lovely. “I vaguely recall meeting them when I was a kid. He (Dale) was in Byker Grove, and he blinded one of them in real life.”
Meeks most recently appeared as Moat’s buddy Rory Sutcliffe in the ITV true crime thriller The Hunt For Raoul Moat. Last Monday, he tweeted about his role in the show, saying, “Sadly watching tonight’s episode from this equally mysterious and sinister location.” It’s wonderful to feel loved. Thank you, everyone. Keep it up, xxx.”
