Hundreds of tearful fans of pop diva Coco Lee have joined family friends of the pop diva who died earlier this month by suicide at age 48.
The death of the Hong Kong-born singer-songwriter shocked fans when Lee’s brothers posted the sad news on social media that Lee had passed away on July 5 after a suicide attempt on July 2. Black-clad fans gathered outside the flower-bearing funeral home to pay their respects during memorial services attended by their friends and family, including singers Elva Hsiao and Jenny Tseng. Grieving fans held up banners for Lee as they queued to enter a funeral parlor that was due to open to the public after a private service. Known for her powerful voice and her live performances, Lee was the first Chinese singer to break into the US market and had attended school in San Francisco before releasing her first album in 1994 at age 19.
