Mother-of-three Ciera Grimley died on Saturday, a week after a four-vehicle collision near Markethill, County Armagh, last weekend. Her husband Patrick died at the scene. The couple, from Madden in County Armagh, were returning home from Patrick’s 40th birthday party when the accident happened. Another victim, Ciara McElvanna, was buried Saturday morning. Several other people suffered injuries following the crash on Gosford Road at 01:20 GMT on November 4. Nine emergency ambulance crews attended the scene and the injured were taken to Craigavon Area Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. Two men remain in hospital. Detective Sergeant McIvor of the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision Investigation Unit said: “A full investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the collision and officers are asking anyone who witnessed it to come forward. get in touch.” St Patrick’s Primary School in Armagh, where Ms Grimley previously worked as a classroom assistant, said “her kind nature and caring instincts were shown every day”.

The school added that she had a strong bond with her students and left a “lasting impression on those who worked most closely with her.” Writing on social media, Paddy Woods of the Madden Raparees GAA club, where Patrick Grimley was secretary, described Ciera as a “loving, attentive and supportive wife to Patrick”. “Ciera, along with Patrick, spent many afternoons supporting her children in their many hobbies and activities,” he said. “Her passion for the GAA led them to follow the club and county throughout Ireland, creating precious memories in the process. “Our thoughts remain with all those within our community recovering at this time,” she continued. “Furthermore, for all those affected by recent events, we may ask that you continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers in the days, weeks and months ahead. Grimley, a former GAA player, has previously been in charge of public relations for her club. Speaking at the time of her death, Woods told BBC News NI that the Grimley family were “soaked in GAA” and that her loss would be felt across the Madden area. Ciara McElvanna, 44, married and mother-of-four, was from Armagh. She died at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast on Wednesday. Her funeral was held at St. Joseph’s Church in Madden on Saturday morning.
