Chris Thomas, 50, a tribute has been paid to a British pub owner who died in Lanzarote after being shoved down a flight of stairs during a quarrel.
Chris Thomas died a day after being transported to the hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning following the incident. A 46-year-old German guy, characterized locally as a problem, is in arrest after allegedly being barred from multiple restaurants and pubs in the island resort of Costa Teguise. After appearing before a judge on Monday, he was detained on suspicion of homicide and put in jail awaiting an ongoing investigation.

In social media tributes today, friends and loved ones characterized London-born ex-pat Chris as compassionate, loving, and amusing. Dozens of Brits have left messages on the Facebook page of The Clock, the bar Chris owned and which remains closed following the tragedy. Ken Moore wrote: ‘A huge hole has been left in our hearts and minds. A true gentleman. A lovely man. A great character. A smile that would light up any room. ‘The world has lost someone very special. He will be missed by so many.’ He added: ‘It was a pleasure and privilege to have you as a friend.’
Jen Blackburn wrote: ‘I’ve no words that could possibly help at this truly devastating time. So incredibly sorry that you should all be facing such a tragic loss. Chris was a friend to all…One of life’s real good guys. His passing will be felt so strongly by so many. I feel privileged to have known him and shared so many laughs. My heart goes out to all of you and you will all be in my thoughts.’

Staff at The Clock confirmed the closure in a social media message, saying, ‘As you may possibly be aware now or soon. Chris is no longer with us. The clock has struck twelve. ‘We will keep you updated.’ According to one local version, the event that led to Chris’s death occurred at The Clock, however, reliable sources say it happened at a nearby commercial center near a fast food restaurant. Before making the arrest, police were summoned just after 3 a.m. on Sunday and assisted in giving emergency medical treatment. The deceased man’s parents are known to live in Lanzarote, but he is thought to have siblings in the United Kingdom.
