Suspect in the Murder of Woramet Ben Taota
Chaiwat, who was recently freed from prison for sex offenses, allegedly told police that he lured Ben to the jungle and attacked him in retaliation for a botched drug deal. He was believed to have claimed Ben and his girlfriend Suraphltchaya Khamsa, 16, both of whom are still missing, were methamphetamine runners for him but stole a shipment. The (suspected) killer was enraged because he felt Ben stored narcotics for himself and his girlfriends, so he whacked the victim with a stick multiple times till he died,’ said Lampang Provincial Police Major General Mongkol Sampawapol. ‘He is a thief. He had previously served time in prison. He will face murder charges.’
On Sunday morning, police officials from the Mae Tha district received word that the adolescent had been discovered dead in a grove in the Ban Than district. Officers discovered a smartphone charger and a red wallet holding his ID card and bank card in his black shoulder bag. His smartphone and cash were missing, and investigators believe he may have been robbed for the items. Officers believe Ben was slain elsewhere and abandoned in the woods because his bones were recovered with no indications of a struggle. He suffered head injuries consistent with significant trauma, according to the doctors.
