Businesswoman died in the Brecon Beacons after falling down steps during a waterfall walk
Carly slipped as the party descended a particularly rocky section of the path, according to her partner Joshua. He posted on the internet: “I turned around as I heard Carly shouting my name as she plummeted to the waterfall below on the slick terrain.” My daughters, who were not present when she fell, were troubled by my response. Before I hurried down to discover Carly unconscious and with serious injuries to her body and head, I got them tucked into the slope. My sister and I carried my children off the hill as the coastguard and air ambulance were called. I spent two days in Cardiff Hospital with Carly on life support after getting them safely home. She never regained consciousness, so a ceremony couldn’t be done when I asked the chaplain to marry us.
Carly tragically passed away on her daughter’s tenth birthday, prompting an inquiry to be held at Pontypridd Coroner’s Court investigating her death. She suffered a catastrophic brain injury, and the coroner Patricia Morgan stated: “Unfortunately, she did not survive despite considerable medical efforts involving helicopter transfer, neurology treatment, and intensive care.” The medical causes of death were listed as traumatic brain injury, right brachial artery thrombus (operated), and right upper limb ischemia during the Pontypridd hearing, it was revealed. Accidental death was the verdict given by Ms. Morgan.
Joshua is walking from Land’s End to John’O Groats to raise money for the Welsh Air Ambulance in honor of Carly.
