Carlos Lemont Jones has allegedly confessed that he shot his ex-girlfriend 15 times in the back because he was angry that she refused to answer his texts or phone calls.
Carlos, 23, was arrested this week in connection with the murder of Sha’Dayla A. Johnson, 23. Melbourne police said the shooting happened in Colbert Circle, near East University Boulevard, on Tuesday morning. According to the affidavit, Sha’Dayla was on her way to work when she was shot fifteen times in the back in front of her home. Her father, Torrance Clark, told officers that he heard gunshots and saw Jones looking toward the house. When he came out, he said Jones had left and found his daughter face down on the garage floor.

Sha’Dayla and Jones had reportedly been living together until they broke up two weeks earlier during an argument. Torrance said Jones had been “continually calling and harassing Sha’Dayla in an effort to get back to her.” The report stated that Sha’Dayla ignored her calls and text messages. Jones’s mother reportedly talked him into turning himself in and police said he made a full confession to shooting his ex-girlfriend because he was angry she wouldn’t return his calls or text messages.
The affidavit said Jones purchased the gun he allegedly used to kill Sha’Dayla a week before the shooting. When asked if he was sorry, Jones allegedly told police “no” and said that if he had to do it again, he would have killed Sha’Dayla and her father.
