Carl Flenoy Jr, a young father of two and Navy veteran was fatally shot while driving near Los Angeles International Airport on his way home from dinner over the weekend, authorities said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at the top of the La Tijera Boulevard off-ramp of the southbound 405 Freeway. While initial reports indicated that the shooting was possibly related to a previous accident, Flenoy’s family said that no road rage incidents had preceded the shooting. Flenoy was returning from a dinner with friends in Marina Del Rey. Family members said Flenoy had not been involved in any altercation that night.

“There’s no reason to believe that anyone would be trying to get him,” Wilson said. “That is something that would never cross our minds. The cousin described the 28-year-old as a great father to his two young daughters, as well as a loving brother and son. He’s heartbreaking because he’s a good guy,” he said.
