Killed in horror road crash just one month after teammate Keira Dascoli-Guymer died

It is the second tragedy the association has suffered in just over a month.Ms Dean’s teammate, Keira Dascoli-Guymer, from Nambour, collapsed on June 17.The 18-year-old was rushed to the intensive care unit at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where she spent 10 days in a coma.On June 27, her family made the heartbreaking decision to disconnect her from her life support.At the time, Ms Dascoli-Guymer said she was healthy and fit and doctors were unable to determine what caused the sudden episode.”She didn’t have a heart attack … her heart just stopped and they don’t know why,” her mother, Lisa Guymer, told the Courier Mail.”It’s hard to try to accept that they don’t know, and we may never know.”Ms Guymer described her daughter as a fan of roller derby. “Skate derby is generally a sport that is full of outsiders and people who have their own unique personalities and people who are very supportive,” said Ms Guymer.”Once (Keira joined the sport) she finally felt like she fit in.”Ms Dean is understood to have joined the Coastal Junior Roller Derby in 2018, while Ms Dascoli-Guymer joined in 2020.
