Bernard Jimmerson, a father-of-two suspected of shooting an assault weapon at automobiles because he was ‘frustrated’ by the noise of vehicles moving down his street, has been arrested after fatally shooting a 21-year-old woman, according to authorities.
Bernard Jimmerson, a 39-year-old convicted felon, was charged with murder by police on Saturday after reportedly shooting at Maria Villa Bedford in Oakland. Jimmerson, a father of a 2-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter, told police he was “frustrated” by automobiles “racing up and down the street at night.”
According to District Attorney Pamela Price, he informed officers that he chose to fire his assault rifle at the automobiles as they traveled down the road. Bedford was subsequently shot and killed after her Mercedes crashed on MacArthur Boulevard near Oakland’s 95th Avenue around 2.30 a.m. on Saturday, April 29.

Man charged with murdering woman over traffic noise
‘My office had brought murder charges against an Oakland man who fired his assault rifle into the street, killing 21-year-old Maria Villa Bedford who was simply driving by,’ said District Attorney Pamela Price. ‘My heartfelt condolences go out to Ms Bedford’s family, and we extend our heartfelt compassion. Her murder is tragic and completely unjustifiable.
‘Bernard Tracey Jimmerson, an Oakland resident and father of two young children, told officers he was frustrated by the noise of cars racing up and down his street in the middle of the night,’ she continued. He rushed outdoors with his weapon and opened fire on passing automobiles, killing Marie Bedford.’ ‘Today, Mr Jimmerson faces a sentence of 27 years to life in prison for an angry decision he made.

Jimmerson faces decades to life in jail
Jimmerson is now facing accusations of second-degree murder, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, assault rifle possession, felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and a gun enhancement. ‘There are too many guns in this society, and there are too many people who are too eager to use a gun, feeling they have the right to do so when they do not. ‘It has to end,’ said District Attorney Price in a video message. ‘If someone takes their own life under these conditions, we will hold them liable.’
Jimmerson faces decades to life in jail if convicted. Oakland police claimed they confiscated two AR-15 rifles, two handguns, high-capacity rifle magazines, 194 loose rounds, and body armor during their investigation. The firearms, according to authorities, were illegally stored and were accessible to his two young children. Jimmerson is now being jailed without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 11th to enter a plea.
