Ben Siegfried, a member of the XFL’s Athletic Training Department who worked with the Battlehawks and D.C., has died.

Ben Seigfried worked for the XFL Department of Athletic Training as the athletic trainer for graduate students at Lebanon Valley University. He played a crucial role in preparing the Battlehawks and Defenders for the upcoming campaign. His contagious smile in the locker room and dedication to his work. Ben played soccer for the Dutch at Lebanon Valley College. He studied sports training for his specialty. At the Conrad School of Science, he participated in soccer, wrestling, and lacrosse as a three-sport athlete. The son of Lauren DeBlasio and Roger Siegfried, Ben was a team captain, three-year letter winner, All-State Sportsmanship Award and Team Sportsmanship Award winner, honor roll student, and student government member.

Ben did not participate in any varsity games as a freshman in 2018. In 2019, he participated in two varsity contests for LVC. The season was postponed to 2020 due to COVID-19. Ben played in 10 games in 2021, recording 17 tackles and a half sack. A season-best four tackles against Wilkes and King repelled a kick. The MAC Academic Honor Roll included him. Seigfried was an integral part of the BattleHawks organization, overseeing the team’s medical needs and helping keep players healthy and safe throughout the season. He previously worked with the St. Louis Blues and the St. Louis Surge and was highly respected in the local sports community.

A Wilmington Battlehawks coaching staff member, Ben Siegfried, sadly passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023. Ben was reportedly found dead at the team hotel last night.

While details of Seigfried’s death have yet to be released, his passing has raised questions about the risks and challenges facing athletic trainers and other medical professionals in the sports industry.

The XFL family mourns the death of Ben Siegfried, a comrade who left last night. Preparing our Battlehawks and Defenders for the season was greatly assisted by Ben, a graduate student athletic trainer from Lebanon Valley University who works with the XFL Department of Physical Training. All the athletes and staff who had the opportunity to work with him will miss his infectious smile in the locker room and his love for his work.”

The BattleHawks had been one of the most successful teams in the XFL’s inaugural season, and Seigfried had played a key role in their success. His loss has been felt not only by his colleagues but also by fans and supporters of the team.
