Beau Wilson, the gunman who killed three people and injured six others in New Mexico while firing at random has been identified as an 18-year-old student.
Authorities say, Beau Wilson, a Farmington High School student, was responsible for the horrific shooting on Monday before being shot dead by police. Wilson patrolled a neighborhood in the state’s northwest with at least three legal firearms, including an AR-style rifle, according to Farmington Deputy Police Chief Kyle Dowdy on Tuesday.
The attacker fired randomly at vehicles and homes, and ‘no schools, churches, or individuals were targeted,’ Dowdy said. We’re still looking into how he obtained those firearms,’ he said. Dowdy claims Wilson turned 18 in November and bought one of the pistols a month later. He believes the other firearms were legitimately owned by a family member.

Authorities spoke with his relatives and are investigating his motive. Wilson did not appear right away. Among those injured were a New Mexico State Police officer who drove himself to a hospital and is still being treated, as well as a Farmington police officer who has been released from the hospital.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. in a community of around 50,000 people, which is near a Navajo Nation reservation. Wilson carried out the attack over a ‘vast and complicated scene’ covering more than a quarter-mile, according to police Chief Steve Hebbe. The town is reeling in sorrow and astonishment,’ said Mayor Nate Duckett on Monday night. In the face of adversity, we must stand together, console one another, and work tirelessly to heal these wounds so that we may emerge stronger and not let this act of violence define us,’ Duckett added. There have been 225 mass shootings in the United States in the first 20 weeks of the year.
