Azucena Sánchez, 20, and Artemio Maldonado, 18, have been charged with murder after four people were shot to death Sunday in a Dallas apartment, where an unharmed baby was also found.
Police responded to reports of a shooting in northwest Texas City at 7:00 p.m. m., where two men and two women were discovered with fatal gunshot wounds. Azucena Sánchez, 20, and Artemio Maldonado, 18, were arrested three hours after Dallas police located their vehicle a few miles from the apartment complex along Villaverde Avenue.
An arrest warrant affidavit revealed that Sanchez was the ex-girlfriend of one of the victims and that they were in a custody dispute over her son, according to Dallas-based television station WFAA. It is the third mass shooting, typically defined as four or more people killed or injured in a single shooting incident, in Dallas this year.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims as their families are being notified and have provided no information on a possible motive for the shooting. Sanchez and Maldonado were taken to the Dallas Police Headquarters and the Dallas County Jail and each was charged with Capital Murder. Jail records did not list an attorney for any of the suspects.

The victim’s relatives are said to have told the police that Sánchez and Maldonado had made multiple threats against them. Maldonado admitted to shooting all four victims in his police interview, according to the affidavit. Sanchez told police they thought the apartment was empty and entered through a back bedroom window to get money before the victims confronted them and Maldonado shot them. They took an empty box from a bedroom closet thinking it contained money when they left the scene.
