Austin Poling has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death of his father in Marion County.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said Tracy Poling, 55, was found dead at her home on the U.S. Highway. 43 North in Hamilton. Poling’s dog was also found dead. The sheriff’s office said both had been shot with a handgun.

Poling was found walking on Highway
Poling’s 28-year-old son, , who also lived in the house, was charged with murder and cruelty to animals. The sheriff’s office said he received a 911 call Wednesday morning around 5:19 a.m.
Hamilton Police Department officers were the first to arrive, but the Hamilton Fire Department and Marion County EMS were already on scene. The sheriff’s office said Austin Poling was not at the home when law enforcement and emergency personnel arrived.
After police conducted a search of the area, the sheriff’s office said Austin Poling was found walking on Highway 187 in Hamilton, not far from the crime scene. He was taken into custody.
The sheriff’s office said Poling was taken to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held in county jail in lieu of bond totaling $160,000 – $150,000 for the murder charge and $10,000 for the cruelty to animals charge. The sheriff’s office said the investigation into the case is still ongoing at this time.
