Shawna Kelley said; Suicide trigger warning: I recall Ashley Morrison, as the Youngest Old Cat Lady, with tears streaming down my cheeks and a lump in my throat. She was one of many unsung heroines who devoted her life and soul to animal rescue. Just 7 days ago she put up kittens for adoption who were hissy assertions when she got them and are now loving and in a forever home.
According to Whatcom Feline Alliance, “We have some very sad news about the recent passing of a fellow rescuer.” Ashley Morrison committed suicide as a result of her severe mental health. We are astonished and disappointed by this conclusion because she was someone we networked with and who had always financed TNR for feral colonies in Whatcom and Skagit Counties when asked. We had only talked to her about a project two weeks before. We don’t know any of the personal specifics that lead up to this act, but we are heartbroken for her, her two-legged and four-legged family, and the rescue community as a whole. It is a tragic loss. She made an incredible influence on the globe, and we wish she had been able to overcome her difficulties. She was an advocate for mental health and suicide prevention, in part because she had lost her father too soon. We are heartbroken for her mother, who was instrumental in her work and travels.
