Anthony Woods, 28, a West Australian police officer, died after being run over and dragged under a car during an arrest.
Around 1 am on Thursday, Constable Anthony Woods and other officers were pursuing the car, which reportedly had stolen number plates, through Ascot in Perth’s east. Constable Woods was hit by the vehicle and dragged underneath as the officers attempted to capture the three occupants.

Police said his fellow officers had to lift the car off him and attempted CPR at the scene before he was rushed to hospital in a critical condition. The 28-year-old was in an induced coma at Royal Perth Hospital for three days but WA Police on Sunday night confirmed he had succumbed to his injuries. Reagan Ainsley Chown, 23, appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday after being charged in connection with the incident.
He faces many charges, including executing an act intended to prevent arrest that resulted in severe bodily harm and driving recklessly to avoid police pursuit. He was not obliged to enter a plea and was remanded in jail until July 7. A 20-year-old woman and a 25-year-old male who were apprehended after reportedly being in the stolen automobile were freed awaiting further investigation, according to police.
