Andrew O’Donnell, 18, and Max Wall, both graduates of the same Dublin secondary school, died while on holiday in Greece.
Andrew O’Donnell and Max Wall, both 18 and former students of St Michael’s College, were killed in separate incidents on the island of Ios over the weekend. Gardaí will also help with the repatriation of their bodies. Mr. O’Donnell disappeared after a night out on Friday and his body was found in a rocky area on Sunday morning. It is believed that he may have fallen. Wall died hours later in the island’s port, Irish broadcaster RTÉ reported. An autopsy is expected to be carried out on both men in Athens on Tuesday. The Greek authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of each death.

Irish police are in Greece investigating teen death
Around 90 students from St Michael’s College had traveled to the Greek island to celebrate the completion of their Leaving Certificate exams. St Michael’s principal Tim Kelleher said the school community was devastated by their deaths. Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, he said: “We are heartbroken. We have a very tight-knit community and these are two fantastic young people with lives ahead of them.” The school will remain open with counseling services available for students returning from the island. A book of condolences and vigil has been opened and a memorial has been arranged for later this week.
A union of alumni thanked those who formed an honor guard when the bodies of the teenagers left Ios for Athens on Tuesday morning. Ireland’s match against Fiji in the World Rugby U20 Championship took place with the players wearing black armbands as a sign of respect. A minute’s silence was observed before kick-off. Six of the team panel are alumni of St Michael’s College and knew the teenagers. The team is also mourning the loss of one of the player’s parents.
