Emergency crews were called to Forrester High School in the city’s west Tuesday afternoon after 15-year-old Andrew MacKinnon suffered a “medical incident.” Police Scotland confirmed the boy was dead, but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A police spokesman said: “On Tuesday, police learned that a 15-year-old boy had died after collapsing in Broomhouse Road, Edinburgh. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be filed with the Fiscal Prosecutor.” Subsequently, members of the public were invited to a local church for a period of reflection and to light a candle in tribute to Andrew.
An online post from St David’s Broomhouse Parish Church said: “After today’s difficult circumstances, the church will be open tonight, 8 pm-9 pm, for quiet reflection and the opportunity to light a candle. All are welcome”.

Forrester High School principal Stephen Rafferty paid tribute to the teen. He said: “Our school and local community have been shocked and saddened by Andrew’s passing. He was such a likable character, loved by all who knew him. He was a great sportsman, an outstanding team player, and a loyal friend. Our deepest condolences go out to Andrew’s family and friends at this difficult time.” A report will be rendered to the Fiscal Attorney.
