Clemency requested for death row inmate in Texas

He has eaten one of his gouged out eyes each time since the murders, his lawyers said, to prevent the government from eavesdropping on his thoughts.

According to Thomas’s lawyers, he will never be mentally fit to be executed on April 5. On Wednesday, they petitioned Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles to commute his death sentence to life in prison or grant him clemency so that the courts could determine whether he was competent to prevent death.
