Amanda Hicks, a respected Florida middle school teacher, was discovered dead alongside a man Saturday morning in what police think was a murder-suicide.
Police in Port St. Lucie stated in a statement that they went to a home to check on the welfare of a family member of a guy who resided there. The door was shut when authorities arrived, but officers “could hear a young infant inside the residence crying.” Officers observed two deceased victims on the floor through a sliding door.
“It appears at this time, an adult female was killed by an adult male who then took his own life,” police stated in a release, adding that the two “were romantically involved.” The victim has not been recognized by police, but according to Treasure Coast Newspapers and CBS12, Darcia Borel, administrator at Anderson Middle School in Port St. Lucie, stated staff identified the victim as Amanda Hicks, 26.

“While words will never be enough to convey the shock and sadness this news has brought to our school family, it is more important than ever to come together to support one another through our grief journey,” Borel wrote in his message. The man’s identity has not been revealed. The man and woman were killed in an unknown manner, according to police. The wailing infant was removed from the cot by police.
The baby was unhurt and is presently in the care of a family member. In an interview with WBPF, Hicks’ friend Raquel Magallon characterized her as “she just lit up the room.” She had the most lovely smile. She was always cheerful and lively.” “She was just an angel,” Magallon added, “and she brightened my day every time I saw her.”
