Alynn McFarland, 29, the suspect, a man who left a Las Vegas police officer permanently disfigured when he bit off part of the officer’s ear after barricading himself inside a bus, police said.
Around 6:45 p.m. Monday, Metro police responded to a report of a man refusing to leave a Regional Transportation Commission bus near Durango Drive and Blue Diamond Road after becoming enraged that he missed his stop, according to the charging documents obtained by KLAS. The private security guard who called the police told them that the man, later identified as 29-year-old Alynn McFarland, threatened to “shoot and kill” him and the bus driver.

McFarland “threw rocks and a small trash can” at the caller and tried to hit the driver, police wrote in the affidavit. As officers moved to remove McFarland from the bus, he kicked and threw a rock at a police dog, police said. He also punched three officers, spat on three more, and bit an officer’s ear, dislodging the earlobe, according to the affidavit. Police were unable to retrieve the officer’s earlobe and attempt to reattach it, police said. As a result, the officer was permanently disfigured. McFarland, covered in blood, was eventually apprehended after he was electrocuted by police. He faces several charges, including assault, mistreatment of a police animal, and mutilation, according to records.
