Off-duty LA County sheriff’s deputy fatally shot by Fontana Police
Shots erupted after he raised his firearm at officers, department spokesman Daniel Romero told the station.Diaz was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.“The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic shooting involving our deceased off-duty deputy,” the department said in a statement. “This incident is extremely difficult for the family, our staff and the officers involved.”The officer was in the midst of a mental health crisis, multiple law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times.Sources also said the officer was likely under the influence of alcohol and visibly distraught.
