Anchorage police issued an amber alert to find out about the disappearance of an eight-month-old, Ahmiri Chaney. The missing baby was allegedly abducted by 23-year-old Eric Chaney Jr, who is the child’s father. However, Ahmiri’s mother was found dead in her home when the police arrived.
The alleged kidnapper is black, 5 feet 8 inches tall, and weighs approximately 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Additionally, Eric was last seen wearing a dark ski mask, and a light-colored, white or brown, and blue hoodie. The sweatshirt has the Chicago Cubs logo on the sleeves and dark pants, according to Alaska News.

Ahmiri is an 8-month-old baby who has been missing from Anchorage, Alaska since Monday, February 17. The child is considered to be an Alaska Native boy with brown hair and brown eyes. When Anchorage police sent out the Amber Alert, APD Director of Community Relations Sunny Guerin said, “When Amber Alerts are sent out, APD sends out a request. We don’t actually send out Amber Alerts, and when we ask for them, we’re exhausting every lead, every effort to locate the child, and then when those efforts are exhausted, we’re moving forward with issuing Amber Alerts and more by asking for help from the public and locate the child,” Guerin said. “In the last two years, this is the first one we’ve aired in Anchorage,” according to the Alaska News.

“At 8:57 a.m. on February 17, 2023, Anchorage Police were dispatched to the 6000 block of E 12th Avenue in reference to a homicide. When officers arrived, they found a deceased adult victim with trauma to the upper body. The crime scene team has responded to process the scene. There will be a continued police presence in the area as the investigation continues,” Anchorage police stated.
Police also added: “Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ahmiri Chaney or Eric Chaney Jr., to include surveillance footage from the area, should contact Police Dispatch at 9-1-1 or (907) 786- 8900 (option #0). Police are currently following leads and there is no further information to release at this time.” In addition, he added: “We ask both the public and the media to refrain from posting/publishing photos and/or videos of the scene until the situation is over. Showing tactical positions and movements in these types of situations can put the public and the officers ‘safety at risk’.
