Adrienne Vaughan, 45, was with her husband Mike White, daughter Leanna, 14, and son Mason, 11, when their speedboat collided with a sailboat carrying 85 people celebrating a wedding. Vaughan had been dreaming of a trip to Italy for some time and was with her family on a tour of Europe, according to local media. The family, from New York, had rented a boat in Nerano and was traveling to Positano yesterday. Around 6:30 p.m. m. in Fiordo di Furore they crashed into a 130-foot Tortuga ship with American and German tourists on board. Mrs. Vaughan was thrown into the water and was fatally struck by the boat’s propellers. Two ambulances and a helicopter arrived at the scene but despite her desperate attempts to revive her, she was pronounced dead. Her husband was also thrown from the boat, sustaining serious injuries to his extremities. He was rushed to the Castiglione di Ravello hospital. The children were uninjured in the accident but suffered shock. The skipper of the boat was also injured and he was taken to hospital.

The Amalfi Port Authority has launched an investigation into the incident. It is currently unclear how the two ships collided.
